Chris Labelle started his journey into music as a teenager hailing from Ottawa, ON. Getting his first on stage experience at a local talent show. Labelle shared an uncanny comfort with the ability to perform in front of a live audience. Realizing his potential as a performing artist, he decided to pursue his newfound passion full force.
Listening to a myriad of boy-bands springing in the late 1990 - early 2000, made Labelle an avid fan of rhythm and harmonies. His love of music falls between Garth Brooks and Shania Twain, to Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and such musical icons as The Beatles and The Rolling stones. "I admire artists with longevity in their career," explains Labelle. "That's definitely something I strive for as an artist myself."
Determined to get recognized by the majors and eventually sign a deal, Labelle spent a lot of his time developing and funding his own projects. He recorded his first demo with award winning producer Justin Gray (Josh Stone, Snow). The project introduced Labelle to the local Ottawa scene, but didn't attain what he had hoped for. Labelle decided to take a different direction and auditioned for the popular TV show "Canadian Idol". Unfortunately, he did not make the cut the 1st time around. However, the experience prompted Labelle to improve his chops as a vocalist and performer, and he enrolled in the Whitham School of the Performing Arts. Through this school, Labelle was presented with the chance to travel and perform in Orlando at Disney World, Sea World and Old Town.
With all of this experience behind him, the now confident Chris Labelle auditioned once again for "Canadian Idol". This time he made it into the top 18. Being on the show, put Chris in front of a national audience of thousands and created a new league of fans. Even though it was an early exit for Labelle, this was only the beginning of his musical endeavors. In 2006 Labelle signed with Sound of Pop, an independent label in Toronto and subsequently released his first effort on March 13th, 2007 "Two Weeks Tuesday" distributed by Fontana North/Universal Music Canada.
With a near death experience of his brother, which had affected him deeply, Labelle now saw the future in a very different light. "Every time I see my brother laugh, I know who I'm doing this for and why I'm doing it. The incident only made me stronger"
Finally, in 2008, the single "Heaven's Falling" fell into the hands of Manny Dion, executive at CP Management and Bookings. At a Belly autography signing in Ottawa, Labelle snuck past security and dropped the CD in Dion's hands. Dion and CP Records Inc. executive, Tony Sal were enthusiastic about what Chris Labelle could bring to their labels existing roster, and inked a deal with him shortly thereafter.
Labelle went into the studio with producers Ben Dunk and JC Smith (Wave), to record the new CD "Bad Influence". With Labelle's vocals and stage presence, alongside the mighty pen of award winning songwriter, Belly, "Bad Influence" will surely take Chris Labelle to the top of the charts.
"CP takes care of their artists. They take the time to develop them and give them the tools needed for success," says Labelle. "What they achieved with Massari, Belly and now Danny Fernandes is incredible. Chris Labelle is next, and I've very excited about what the future will bring."
